Leopard Kills Young Girl in Pune; Villagers Ask for Protection
A heart-breaking leopard attack in Maharashtra’s Pune district has resulted in the death of a five-year-old girl. The tragic event took place on Sunday in Pimparkhed village in Shirur tehsil, leading to anger and demands for immediate action from local residents.
The young victim, identified as Shivanya Shailesh Bombe, was on her way to deliver water to her grandfather, who was working on the family farm close to their home. While she was walking, a leopard, which forest officials believe was hiding in the fields, quickly pounced on the child. The animal grabbed Shivanya by the neck and began dragging her away from the farm area.

Other people working nearby immediately noticed the attack and rushed to the scene. Their shouts and pursuit scared the feline, causing it to drop the child and flee back into the fields. Shivanya was severely wounded in the neck. She was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but sadly, she did not survive her injuries.
The young girl’s death has created widespread distress and anger among the villagers. They point out that this is not an isolated case, highlighting a recent spate of leopard attacks in the region. The locals are now urgently demanding that the government and the Forest Department implement strong and effective measures to prevent any further casualties and ensure the community’s safety.
In response, Forest Department officials quickly mobilized, setting up ten capture cages across the area and starting an intensive search operation. Their efforts paid off when personnel successfully captured a leopard from the village on Monday. Officials are continuing to monitor the situation to ease the fears of the residents and reduce human-animal conflict.
