Pune Metro Crosses 10 Crore Ridership Milestone
The Pune Metro has achieved a major milestone, recording over 10 crore passengers since its launch in March 2022. This marks a significant achievement for the city’s growing public transport network and reflects the increasing preference among Punekars for a faster and more sustainable travel option.
Operated by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha-Metro), the system initially saw a modest daily ridership of around 25,000 passengers. However, with new stretches such as Phugewadi to Civil Court and Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic opening in 2023, numbers have steadily risen to nearly 2 lakh commuters per day. The extension of the underground corridor toward Swargate has further boosted these figures.

Maha-Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar expressed gratitude to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad residents, noting that the metro has truly become “Aapli Metro” (our metro). He reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to expanding routes and improving passenger convenience.
The achievement comes as Pune continues to face growing traffic congestion and pollution. With better last-mile connectivity, feeder buses, and station accessibility, experts believe metro ridership will continue to rise in the coming years.
As Pune Metro enters its next phase, its success story demonstrates the city’s shift toward efficient and eco-friendly urban transport. Crossing the 10 crore mark is not just a numerical feat—it symbolizes Pune’s journey toward a modern, connected, and sustainable future.
