Pune Police Seek International Help to Catch Fugitive Gangster
Title Suggestion: Pune Police Seek International Help to Catch Fugitive Gangster
The Pune City Police have started a major effort to bring back fugitive gangster Nilesh Ghaywal. Ghaywal, a known associate of gangster Gajanan Marne, fled India last month after his gang was involved in serious crimes. Police believe he is currently hiding abroad, possibly in countries like London or Switzerland.

To track him down, the Pune Police have asked the central government to issue an Interpol Blue Corner Notice. This notice is an international request for police forces in other countries to find out the location, identity, or activities of a person linked to a crime. This move is a crucial first step before police can formally request his extradition back to India.
The need for this action grew after an incident on September 17. Members of Ghaywal’s gang allegedly opened fire on one person and attacked a student with sharp weapons in Pune’s Kothrud area. Following this attack, the police filed two separate reports and invoked the strict Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Ghaywal and eight of his gang members.
While some gang members were arrested, Ghaywal managed to escape the country. Police later filed a separate case against him after discovering he had illegally obtained a passport. In 2022, a court had ordered him to surrender his passport as a condition of his bail, an order he ignored.
Pune Police are now actively trying to confirm Ghaywal’s exact location outside the country. Once his hideout is confirmed, they will move to officially extradite him so he can return to India and face trial for the charges of organized crime and other serious offences.
