Google has announced a plan to invest USD 15 billion over the next five years to build India’s first major AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The hub will include a gigawatt-scale data centre campus, supporting advanced artificial intelligence work and cloud services. It will also be backed by clean energy infrastructure, fibre-optic networks, and subsea cable connectivity to handle the heavy data flow required by AI systems.

This project marks Google’s largest AI investment outside the U.S. to date. The tech giant will partner with AdaniConneX (a venture of the Adani Group) and Airtel to build and operate this hub.

State and national leaders have welcomed the project. Andhra Pradesh’s IT minister says this will help the state become a major data centre hub in India. The investment is also a result of favorable policy changes and tax incentives to attract such large-scale technology infrastructure.

With the proposed hub, Visakhapatnam is set to become a focal point for AI and cloud innovation in India. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs in data centre operations, clean energy, construction, and technology fields.

This development underscores India’s push into the global AI infrastructure race, and Google’s vote of confidence in India as a strategic investment destination.
